Accelerated Resolution Therapy

WHAT IS ACCELERATED RESOLUTION THERAPY?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a specific type of therapy designed to help people recover from traumatic experiences. In ART, we would use Eye Movements (EM) to stimulate the brain to process a specific traumatic or painful memory. It may sound strange, but this approach can be very effective. I have seen it work to reduce trauma symptoms and create change in many peoples’ lives.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN ART SESSION

In an ART session, we would follow a particular protocol. It is possible to do ART through telehealth or in person. ART sessions typically take about 60-80 minutes and we use the whole session to go through the protocol. In an ART session, you wouldn’t need to share ANY details about your memory, if you chose not to. The processing all happens internally and through imagery. You may choose to share some about your memory, but it isn’t necessary in order for this approach to work. You may choose to attend therapy for just a few ART sessions. Or we could integrate ART therapy into our regular talk therapy sessions. We could decide this together.

HOW LONG DOES ART THERAPY TAKE?

An ART therapy session typically takes longer than a talk therapy session. Ideally, we would schedule an 80- minute session. Some may find just 1 or 2 ART sessions to be beneficial, others may benefit from several sessions. It is a versatile approach that we can use in isolation or integrated more into traditional talk therapy. However you chose to engage ART, it is an effective approach at processing trauma.
